A Chavit calendar that was given when I bought a ticket for La Union at the Partas bus station in Aurora Blvd., Cubao

Last Monday night, I planned to travel to Naga City to do a reshoot of the cathedral there and the ermita of Penafrancia. Unfortunately, at around 2200H, there were already no aircon buses in Pasay that I opted to go to Cubao for a 0300H trip. Again, despite being that early, there was still no aircon bus and the regular bus trips will start only at 0400H.

I didn’t much have option since I don’t want to do a 9 hour trip with ordinary buses because its just too uncomfortable and makes lots of stops that I opted to go to La Union instead to shoot 4 churches that Fr. Galende was not able to do.

Fortunately, I was able to ride the 0300H Partas bus and was also amused that Chavit calendars were also given (photo above). Even if I lacked sleep the previous day, the engine noise, lights and occassional stops along the way didn’t really help that I was only able to get a few hours of shut eye.

I have been passing this province ever since I started traveling to Ilocos countless of times but was not able to take a closer look at the churches in La Union except for Bauang and San Fernando. With these additional churches: Bangar, Luna, Balaoan and Bacnotan, I was happy that at last, I will be able to visit these.

Another reason that I need to travel early: I now that Bangar and Balaoan are facing west, thus, if I need to take photos, it has to be done in the afternoon when it is facing the sun. However, as the towns of Luna and Bacnotan are not along the highway, I need to go early to check these two churches.
